Has anyone here by any chance had to send their David Clark headsets in for
repairs under warranty? My X11's broke (surprise surprise), and they are
supposed to have a 5 year warranty, but I bought mine off ebay, so I don't
have a receipt or anything, which you usually need in order for the
warranty to cover repairs. Does anyone know if they'll fix my headset under
warranty, or will they charge me. And if they do charge me, will it be a
lot? All that broke is the plastic hinge that connects the headband to the
earcups.

I've brought several headsets to David Clark for repair. I live in a
neighboring town. They've never asked for a receipt. They simply took the
headset and asked me to have a seat while they replaced everything that
looked worn.

I had a microphone fail on a DC headset that was five years out of warranty.
I shipped it off to them with a letter asking for an estimate of the repair
cost before they took any action. They didn't
respond to the letter, I got the headset back about a week later. They had
replaced the microphone as well as the ear pads (which I hadn't mentioned
and didn't think needed replacement) and shipped it back to me, no charge.

Maybe not the older models, but have you ever seen the X-11's? They look
like they were made with 20 cent plastic. My H10-13.4 are virtually
indestructible, not so much the X-11's. I knew it was only a matter of time
before something broke on them...

It actually happened to me when I was getting the clearance for a 3.5-hour
return home flight. I took the headset off my head to go back to the plane
to get a piece of paper to write the clearance. As I grabbed the earseals
to pull them back, I heard a crunch sound. Thankfully, I had a big rubber
band in my flightbag that I wrapped around my head so the earcups would
cover my ears. Very uncomfortable, especially for 3.5 hours. Here's a
picture of the breakage:

Yeah. I have even heard their "ANR"...

I've required repairs on DC headsets, generally out of warranty. I've
called them; sent the headset back, and they've been repaired/refurbished
at no charge (other than my cost of shipping to them). Most recent was a
few months ago, when I had some crackling in one ear of their ANR's.

I think they have arguably the best warranty (and out of warranty) service
I've ever seen.

No paperwork was required, other than a statement of the problem.

I broke a DC headset. My head made a hole in my canopy (wake turbulence)and
my headset came off and trailed in the wind by the cord. One ear phone was
broken off and the rest pretty battered.

They repaired if at no cost.

Cheers:

I didn't know Lightspeed would fix DC X11's. What is the benefit of
sending them to Lightspeed instead of DC?
